The Works
TfL constructed a new control centre at Hammersmith to relocate control systems and staff to a brand new facility featuring state of the art safety and monitoring equipment. Towards the end of the project they had a change in scope that required modification to the new building to suit new components being installed. Spoortech were brought onboard to fullfil their soft strip out and deconstruction and modification requirements whilst meeting the sites Beacon status, carrying out the work quickly so as not to interupt other trades, and protecting the delicate servers already installed to control the underground network.
Quality
Rigorous ITP’s and site checks were carried out every day and after every section of work was completed. Photographic reports were collected at the end of the day and forwarded to the client, notifiying them of any issues that had been encountered. Client site representatives and Beacon representatives also monitored our work area, with no issues found for Spoortechs methodology or operatives.
As well as the methods mentioned above, an initial survey was done at every location to identify any possible problems that may arise, minimizing issues during installation. Upon completion, a FIRAS log and certificate were issued, detailing the products used in each firestopping location. This was in addtition to a standard handover pack covering all work that was carried out which not only ensures the client that the products and installation are of desired quality, but allows us to check back over our work as a final quality assurance.
Challenges
Due to the sensitivity of the installed servers, fire monitoring equipment, and HVAC systems in close proximity to the works, Spoortech took an off the shelf dust protection kit and customised it to suit the control centres suspended ceilings and floors. This allowed us to quickly mobilise whilst protecting the aforementioned systems from dust associated with soft strip out and deconstruction works.
