Tideway required a storage area for the spoil arising from the central section of their tunnelling works. FLO JV put a design together for the area and Spoortech successfully bid for the construction. The wall consisted of a 1m high cast in-situ concrete plinth, with 4m high precast concrete 'L-Block' anchored ontop.
Spoortech came up with an effective works methodology allowing for the entire 400m length of wall and additional debris netting to be completed in 8 weeks. Specialist plant, operators, and skilled operatives were all used to ensure the job ran smoothly and produced a uniform structure over its entire length. To maintain standards various tests were performed every 20m, covering: rebar anchor tests, precast anchor pull tests, concrete slump tests, and cube tests for 3, 7 & 28 day strengths.
Our client encountered unforseen time constraints during the works, and we co-operated in completing their priority sections of the wall first to meet new deadlines. All works were finished well within the inital time frames, and with minimal disruption to 3rd parties on site despite the start of spoil collection from tunneling operations, winter weather, and changes to design midway through.
The works were completed on time, with no snags, and with all required handover documentation.
