The works involved the installation of a kingpost and plank wall to a 200m section of track in order to prevent further slippage over a particularly steep area. In excess of 400 300 x 300 UKBP of varying length but average 8 meter were driven over into position at 1 meter centres and precast concrete planks installed into the web of the H piles.

The area behind the post and plank wall was built up to form a gravel walkway and Kee-clamp handrail along the entire structure. Possession weekends involved the use of six RRV’s for driving the kingpost piles and 450 were installed over 2 weekends within full blockades. Works before the scheduled possession weekends involved the installation of two scaffold working platforms to both extremely steep embankments, these would enable level access to the line of driven piles and minimise the risk to plant and personal.

A man safe system was installed to secure operatives during the erection of the working platform. During possession weekends multiple smaller teams assigned to an RRV were able to work on 6 separate positions along the retaining wall and work towards one another. Each crew had an RRV at their disposal that was pre-loaded with all the piles and planks required to complete their section of works. Materials and plant were loaded out at the RRAP site before weekend possessions to maximise working times once possession was taken.
